Placer Dome intersects gold at property near Detour Lake

Drill holes on two projects in the Detour Lake area of northeastern Ontario have intersected gold mineralization.

Placer Dome (PDG-T), drilling on a property it holds under option from Gowest Amalgamated Resources (GWA-A), has intersected visible gold in two drill holes. The work is part of a 4-hole effort to map structures and stratigraphy along strike from Placer Dome’s Detour Lake mine.

In hole 008, the two mineralized intersections graded 0.7 gram gold per tonne over 0.3 metre and 1 gram over 1.2 metres. Hole 009 cut 0.3 metre grading 4.4 grams per tonne. The company plans to follow up with additional drilling in early 1997.

About 13 km south of the Detour Lake mine, Better Resources (BRZ-V) and Prism Resources (PRN-V) have finished preliminary drilling on their Atkinson property.

One hole in the 10-hole program intersected 7.5 metres grading 12.3 grams gold per tonne, including a high-grade interval grading 47.7 grams. Further drill-testing is planned.
