During the next 6-9 months, Placer Dome (TSE) plans to expand its international exploration presence and re-allocate resources in Canada.
New exploration offices will be opened at Coral Gables outside Miami, Fla., and as part of a joint venture, in London, England. The company said the new offices were chosen for their geographically strategic positions and will service exploration in South America, Europe and Africa.
In Canada, Placer Dome plans to relocate its western Canada regional exploration office to Kamloops. The company also plans to redeploy “resources” from its district offices in Saskatoon, Sask., and Thunder Bay, Ont., to Kamloops and to Toronto, Timmins and Red Lake in Ontario. Eliseo Gonzalez-Urien, Placer Dome’s vice-president of exploration said the changes will not involve any reduction to the exploration budget of $65.2 million in 1991, or to overall professional staffing levels.
