Placer withdraws from Guyana project

Gold producer Placer Dome (TSE) has withdrawn from the Omai gold project in Guyana, South America, Golden Star Resources (TSE) reports. Golden Star says it has retained Wright Engineers of Vancouver to undertake the project’s final feasibility study, which under the terms of an agreement with the government of Guyana must be completed by Oct. 15.

Golden Star says it has been negotiating with some major mining companies regarding their participation in the project’s development.
