Preble awarded Rand medal

The chief executive officer of Southern Peru Copper Corp. of New York has been awarded the Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal by the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME).

Charles Preble was honored at the recent 122nd annual meeting of AIME. The medal, established in 1932 in remembrance of Charles Rand, a president of AIME in 1913 and a pioneer in iron mining, is awarded for distinguished achievement in mining administration.

Preble joined Southern Peru in 1965, has been its president since 1984 and its chief executive officer since 1985.
