Production planned for garnet project

With the mill now complete and the installation of processing equipment under way, Vancouver-listed partners Stralak Resources and Emerald Isle Resources are expecting a fall production start for their garnet mine in Sudbury, Ont.

The garnets occur in a zone 8,000 ft. long, with widths ranging from 40 to 80 ft. Three pits will be dug in order to extract the garnets, which grade between 40% and 52% on average, rising to as high as 85% in pit no. 2.

Initially, the joint venture will focus on producing garnet for use in sand blasting, waterjet cutting and filtration products.

A private U.S. company joined the venture earlier this year, and will earn a one-third interest upon contributing $1 million toward the project.
