It is my understanding that there is a lot of prospecting going on in the Copperkettle Creek area near Greenwood, B.C.
As a former shareholder in Kodiak Minerals, I would like to know whether Kodiak ever sold its two Copperkettle claims. I am also a shareholder in Wardean Drilling Co. which is reputed to be in the process of being dissolved. H.M., Brooklyn, N.Y.
If the Copperkettle Creek area is still a hive of exploration activity, Kodiak Minerals is no longer involved.
When last heard from in 1970, Kodiak held a 2-claim copper-gold- silver prospect at Copperkettle Creek, 60 miles north of Greenwood, B.C.
The company’s other interests included a 49% interest in a 240- acre copper-silver-molybdenum- nickel prospect in Sonora, Mexico and various oil and gas holdings in northwestern Canada.
At that time President William Jensen had granted options or was negotiating sales on a number of Mexican holdings.
While no more details are available, Jensen wrote to The Northern Miner in 1971 to say that all of Kodiak’s interests had been dropped and that he was no longer a director of the company.
Incorporated in 1952, its Manitoba charter was reported cancelled in 1972 and ordered dissolved.
Wardean Drilling is a 98.21%- owned subsidiary of a holding company called Westburne Petroleum Services. Based in Calgary, Westburne is involved in a number of activities including oil and gas drilling, exploration, production and oilfield supply.
It is also a wholly-owned subsidiary of Westburne International Industries Ltd. which operates as a division of Montreal-based plumbing and electrical parts supplier United Westburne Inc.
According to Pat Aman, a Westburne International administrative assistant, Wardean Drilling is currently being dissolved and the assets of the company will be distributed to shareholders via a public trustee in Toronto.
While Wardean was considered a public company, the shares were never listed anywhere. However, shareholders will receive approximately 47 cents per share, Aman says. For more information, call Aman at (403) 233-6600.
