Vancouver — An underground channel-sampling program on the Torlon zinc property in Guatemala has confirmed the high-grade values in the Main tunnel for operator Redhawk Resources (RDK-V).
Mineralization is hosted in dolostone breccias and has been traced in outcrop and underground workings over a strike length of 600 metres. Two zinc-rich limonite sheet structures mark the core of the mineralization and are dubbed zones N1 and N2. They dip moderately to the east and are separated by 13-18 metres of weakly mineralized dolostone breccias.
The sampling program tested the downdip extensions of mineralization identified on surface at the central and southern Santa Rosa workings. Sampling between the N1 and N2 zone returned an average of 8.1% zinc over 28.1 metres. Zone N2 yielded 18.3% zinc over 5.7 metres. A tunnel connecting the Main zone to the southern workings returned 3.6% zinc over 6.5 metres.
Historical mining activity was directed toward sulphide lead-silver mineralization in mantos and chimneys. The property has never been drill-tested.
Initial filed work outlined a main area of interest along a strike length of 400 metres, a width of 50-80 metres and a vertical thickness of 100 metres. Grab samples have yielded values as high as 44.4% zinc.
Redhawk can earn a 30% interest in the property by spending US$350,000 on exploration over three years. Privately held ZincOx would then be required to spend US$5 million to retain its 70% stake.
