The first phase of drilling on several projects in the Horn of Africa has yielded encouraging gold values for Rift Resources (RIF-T).
Geochemical sampling and prospecting at the Ketina property in southern Eritrea outlined several areas containing anomalous gold and base metal values. The showings, which lie within two major parallel shear systems that extend through the property, are associated with Proterozoic-aged greenstones.
Trenching at the Mai Hauri area on the Ketina project returned 3.1 grams gold per tonne over 3.5 metres, including 7.2 grams over 1.5 metres. Several other targets have been identified on the property, including areas being worked by artisanal miners.
Anomalous areas were also identified at the Nefasit-Mt. Sabub gold property, which covers 190,000 ha in eastern Eritrea.
Meanwhile, Rift is exploring the Negele-Bul Bul project in southern Ethiopia, about 70 km east of the Legadembi gold mine, the country’s only commercial gold producer.
In addition, follow-up work is planned for the Humera project in northwestern Ethiopia, where several anomalous gold targets have been identified.
Echo Bay Mines (ECO-T) and Rift are currently awaiting word on their purchase proposal for the Legadembi gold mine in Ethiopia. The junior has meanwhile applied for additional ground in that country.
