Rio Algom creates Reinertson trust for palliative care program in Elliot Lake, Ont.

Rio Algom has donated $200,000 to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elliot Lake, Ont., for the creation of a palliative care trust named in honor of Lawrie Reinertson, the company’s former president who died of a heart attack in July.

The Lawrie Reinertson Palliative Care Trust will provide financial support for the hospital’s palliative care program, which provides volunteer support for terminally ill patients in and around Elliot Lake.

Rio Algom was active in uranium mining in Elliot Lake for more than 40 years before closing its last mine there in June.
