South American explorer Rio Amarillo Mining (VSE) is targeting the Bellota tourmaline breccia zone during a preliminary phase of drilling at its Aija property in north-central Peru.
A 61.5-metre intersection, encountered while redrilling hole 96-3, averaged 1.92 grams gold per tonne, 145.8 grams silver and 1.82% copper over a depth of 68-129.5 metres. The hole was first drilled in late January to a depth of only 39 metres.
The true width of the mineralized zone, at an elevation of 4,200 metres, is believed to be about 20 metres.
Hole 96-3 is 50 metres due south of hole 96-2, which intersected 33 metres of 2.5 grams gold, 4.3 grams silver and 9.5% arsenic (including an interval grading 4.6 grams gold, 6 grams silver and 15.2% arsenic over 13.5 metres) from a depth of 72-105 metres. Both holes were drilled due east at a minus 60 angle.
A fifth hole was drilled from the collar of hole 3 on an azimuth of N45E at a minus 48 angle. It encountered 28.5 metres grading 5 grams gold and 27.9 grams silver, as well as 1.1% copper, 0.37% zinc and 4.36% arsenic from a depth of 55.5-84 metres.
The latest hole, 96-9, stepped out on the mineralized zone, 25 metres to the south of hole 3. It was drilled from the south-central part of the breccia zone, due west at a minus 48 angle. Although two intervals of massive pyrite mineralization were intersected, no gold mineralization was recorded.
Drilling continues to test the Bellota zone. Hole 96-10 is 100 metres east of hole 3 and is being drilled due west at an angle of minus 60. It is designed to intersect the zone in the same area as hole 3, but from the opposite direction. The objective is to determine the true width of the structure. An eleventh hole is scheduled to be drilled from hole 10’s collar and will test the mineralized zone at depth.
