Rockwell moves forward in Quebec

Vancouver — A 1,771-metre drill program over the Haut Plateau nickel-copper property in east-central Quebec has returned some encouraging values for Rockwell Ventures (RCW-V).

The Hunter Dickinson-led junior is following up the promising drill results from the Barre de Fer zone, where last year’s drill program by Falconbridge (FL-T) cut up to 2.63% nickel, 1.14% copper and 0.2% cobalt over 2.5 metres. The latest program confirmed the mineral continuity of the zone over a 200-metre strike length. Most of the holes cut multiple zones of mineralization with hole 2 returning up to 2.34% nickel, 0.54% copper and 0.17% cobalt over 4.2 metres from 39.5 metres downhole and 1.71% nickel, 1.11% copper and 0.12% cobalt over 7.4 metres from 141.7 metres downhole. Other highlights include:

  • Hole 3 — 2.46% nickel, 0.66% copper, 0.18% cobalt over 2 metres from 86.8 metres downhole,
  • Hole 4 — 2.74% nickel, 0.86% copper and 0.2% cobalt over 6 metres from 165.5 metres downhole,
  • Hole 6 — 1.1% nickel, 0.14% copper and 0.14% cobalt over 2.4 metres from 37.9 metres downhole.

Located 170 km north northwest of the port of Sept-Iles, the Haut Plateau property covers a portion of the Manicouagan intrusive complex, which consist of mafic and ultramafic rocks. The best mineralization discovered to date, occurs in massive sulphide veins.

Last year, exploration by Falconbridge resulted in the discovery of three zones of sulphide mineralization with four of five holes drilled at Barre de Fer cutting significant nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization.

Based on the latest results, the partners are running an airborne electromagnetic geophysical survey, followed by more drilling later in the year.

Rockwell can earn a 60% interest in the property by spending $10 million by April 30, 2006. Falconbridge retains the right to convert its 40% interest to a 60% stake by completing and funding a positive bankable feasibility study and arranging the project financing for development of a mine.
