Royal Oak Mines (TSE) says it (with predecessor Pamour Inc.) has been cleared by the Ontario Environmental Appeal Board of any liability in connection with the Oct. 17, 1990, tailings spill at the former Matachewan Consolidated mine in northeastern Ontario.
The board ruled that an order issued by the director of the northeastern region of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment should be revoked, as neither Pamour had management, control nor ownership of the tailings impoundment at the old mine site at the time of the spill nor caused or permitted the discharge.
