“Saskatoon 2002,” the joint annual meeting of the Geological Association of Canada and the Mineralogical Association of Canada, will be held May 27-29 at the University of Saskatchewan.
Hosted by the university’s Department of Geological Sciences, the conference will feature a technical session titled “From Plains to Shield: The Making of a Continent’s Interior.”
Field trips, short courses and special sessions are also planned.
The special sessions include: “New Insights into Archean Gold Deposits near Yellowknife,” hosted by Hendrik Falck, a representative of the Northwest Territories government, and Lyn Anglin of the Geological Survey of Canada; “Seismic Methods in Mining,” hosted by Donald Gendzwill, a professor at the university; and “Living with Arsenic,” hosted by Richard McGregor of XCG Consultants and Ronald Nicholson of Beak International.

Conference on gypsum, fly ash
An international conference devoted to gypsum and fly ash will be held June 2-4 in Toronto.
Experts will discuss such topics as: generating gypsum and fly ash from power generation; flue gas scrubbing technologies; environmental and energy issues; and the use of gypsum and fly ash in Portland cement.

Rock Mechanics symposium
Renowned geoscientist Evert Hoek will be the keynote speaker at the North American Rock Mechanics Symposium, slated for July 7-10 in Toronto.
The event is being organized jointly by the Tunnelling Association of Canada and the University of Toronto’s Lassonde Mining Institute.
The theme of the conference is “Mining and Tunneling: Innovation and Opportunity.”
Tradeshow exhibits will be on display downtown at the University of Toronto and the Delta Chelsea Hotel.
