Scott Wilson Group goes Postle

International consulting and engineering firm Scott Wilson has purchased the vaunted Roscoe Postle Associates (RPA), one of Canada’s best known geological and mining consulting firms.

“(The acquisition) is in line with our strategy of growing our interests in the natural resources sector,” says Geoff French, chairman of Scott Wilson.

Roscoe Postle will join Scott Wilson’s mining consulting group and the expanded entity will be managed from Toronto by the principals of Roscoe Postle.

Graham Clow, a former principal of Roscoe Postle, will head the global operations of Scott Wilson Mining Group, whereas Bill Roscoe will serve as president of the freshly minted Scott Wilson Roscoe Postle Associates. In this capacity, Roscoe will be responsible for all geological and mineral resource aspects of the business.

“This represents another step in the growth of Roscoe Postle to allow us to better serve and widen our client base in more areas of the world,” says Bill Roscoe, the former president of Roscoe Postle. “The new mining group will combine the existing talents of two well respected companies. We are especially pleased to be able to offer RPA’s services directly to the London mining financial market and expect to be fully established there before the end of the summer.”

Jim Hendry, another principal in RPA, will relocate to London as director of operations and attempt to boost the profile of the mining group in the U.K. and Europe.

Scott Wilson was the ninth-largest U.K.-owned engineering firm by income in 2005. Scott Wilson has a network of offices controlled through regional centres in Warsaw, Johannesburg, Dubai, Delhi, Bangkok and Shanghai/Hong Kong.

Toronto-based Roscoe Postle also has offices in Vancouver and Rouyn-Noranda, Que. The lion’s share of Roscoe Postle’s business involves providing independent opinions on mineral resources, technical aspects and economics of mining projects, and valuation of mining and exploration properties, as well as prefeasibility and feasibility studies.
