SOQUEM has confirmed that the next exploration campaign will be aimed at searching for new mineralized lenses both laterally and at depth along strike. SOQUEM’s exploration crews are active in the western part of its large property, while setting permanent camps at about the middle of its claims for the proposed drilling programs to follow later this year.

In addition to these exploration activities east of Joutel-Matagami, interests on the Abitibi greenstone north and south belts are spreading still further east to the Puscitamica-Bachelor-Malouin-Lichen lakes areas where numerous gold and base metals showings are known and being worked by a number of companies. Most important of these to date are Exploration VSM (ME) of Montreal (another Placer- Dome affiliate) which reported earlier this year a high grade zinc discovery on its 60 claims in Grevet Twp. property.

To the northeast in Lesueur Twp. near Bachelor Lake, Aur Resources (TSE) has carried out since last year both surface and underground exploration on the east and new west zones of its Hewfran gold property.

Aur had a mill test of the east zone completed last year at the mill situated immediately east of Hewfran. This test yielded 637 oz gold and confirmed the compatibility of the ore with that of Bachelor Lake Gold Mine (TSE) which also cooperated in Aur’s exploration programs underground. There are rumors circulating that Aur will either take control of Bachelor Lake or buy its mill.

It may take a little while yet to do this since Aur has its hands full with its copper-zinc Louvicourt Twp. discovery east of Val d’Or.
