Ore is now being hoisted up the newly commissioned 2,100-ft. shaft at the Trout Lake mine owned 29% by Granges (TSE), 44% by Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting (TSE), and 27% by the government of Manitoba. .TOre from the North Zone can be hauled directly up the shaft while South Zone ore is being transported indirectly to the shaft through the North Zone ore- handling system.
A direct connection from the South Zone to the shaft is expected to be completed by October, 1990.
The shaft, which replaces truck haulage as the primary means of transporting ore to the surface, is expected to allow for more efficient recovery of ore at depth, according to Granges.
The Trout Lake mine is 2.5 miles northeast of Flin Flon, Man. It produces copper, zinc, silver and gold.
