The discovery of economic silver, lead and zinc values on a 64-claim Yukon Territory’s property, owned by Greater Lenora Resources (TSE), was reported recently. Situated 7.5 miles south of the Robert Campbell Hwy. and the adjacent power line leading to Curragh Resources’ (TSE) lead-zinc mine at Faro, the discovery was made by the regional branch of the Geological Survey of Canada.
According to Lenora, chip samples extracted over a 10-ft. width averaged 19 oz. silver, 13% lead and 18% zinc per ton. Prospecting in the immediate area of the new discovery has located another zone which was chip sampled and averaged 6 oz. silver, 9.9% and 15.8% zinc over 2 ft.
A geological report says the mineralization occurs within a horizon located immediately adjacent to an east-trending, steeply-dipping quartz porphyry dike, about 60 ft. north of the exposed marble granite contact.
The rock types in the western part of the property are reported to be the same as those in the Faro region where Curragh operates a 560,000-ton-per-year lead-zinc mine.
A spokesman for Greater Lenora said the company will likely seek a joint venture partner to help finance exploration on the property. Meanwhile, the company is staking more ground in the area.
