Vancouver — Sultan Minerals (SUL-V) has kicked off a summer exploration program on its Kena property, situated north of Ymir in southeastern British Columbia.
Exploration will consist of two programs that will be conducted simultaneously. The first program consisting of geophysical surveys, trenching and drilling, will focus on further defining gold mineralization within the new gold Mountain zone as well as investigating a strong geophysical anomaly that extends 2,500 metres to the south and merges with the Kena Gold zone.
The second program will test several additional gold targets that are located on claims that were recently acquired by the company. These claims are situated to the north and west of the Gold Mountain zone. Sultan plans to perform geochemical and geophysical surveys as well as trenching and follow-up drilling.
The new claim blocks which are now part of the Kena property include the historic Silver King Mine, Starlight mine and the Great Western, Tough Nut and Cariboo prospects. All of these zones have historical documentation of gold mineralization. Sultan’s geologists are currently compiling all of the historical data on this new land package in order to outline areas that require infill geological, geochemical and geophysical work as well as define new drill targets.
Line cutting on the Gold Mountain zone has commenced and control points for grids and drill holes are being established via a GPS survey. The company reports that ground work in preparation should be completed in three weeks at which time trenching and drilling will commence.
Last year 6,700 metres of core drilling was performed on the gold Mountain zone. Drill results indicated the possibility of a geologically controlled bulk tonnage target.
The Kena property is underlain by volcanic rocks intruded by the younger Silver King porphyry stock. The volcanics are commonly altered and sheared. Sultan reports that brecciation, silicification and potassic alteration are prominent in areas that have the best gold-copper mineralization. Associated minerals are pyrite, chalcopyrite and finely disseminated magnetite. The Gold Mountain zone lies within a 6-km-long gold-in-soil geochemical anomaly in the northwestern portion of the 17 km-long Silver King porphyry property. The zone remains open to the north and south.
Kena is a 30-minute drive from Nelson and boasts excellent infrastructure. Power, gas and rail lines pass through the project area, as does a major highway. The property is also serviced by logging roads.
