Geotech buys Aeroquest
Airborne geophysical surveyor Geotech has acquired Aeroquest International in a move to become the word’s largest privately owned geophysical survey company, operating a fleet of more than 20 aircraft and offering 50 systems to deploy.
Aeroquest’s shareholders overwhelmingly supported the takeover at a meeting earlier this month.
Aeroquest will provide services as usual through its subsidiaries: Aeroquest Limited in Canada; UTS Geophysics in Australia; Aeroquest Mapcon in Canada and the U.S.; and Geophex in the U.S.
Geotech gains Aeroquest’s long history in electro- and fixed-wing magnetics, which allows the company to offer its clients a wider range of services.
With the acquisition Geotech has become the world’s largest privately owned geophysical survey company. Geotech was founded and incorporated in Canada in 1981, and has since become an industry leader in developing airborne surveying equipment and provisioning full-service airborne geophysical surveys, data processing and data interpretation. Ontario-based Aeroquest International is an experienced provider of ultra-detailed fixed-wing magnetic and radiometric data acquisition.
SGS wins Oyu Tolgoi contract
SGS has been awarded a three-year operational contract for the on-site laboratory at the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project in Mongolia.
The contract was initially awarded in late 2011 and operation at the on-site laboratory is expected to begin June 1, 2012.
The on-site laboratory is scheduled to operate 24 hours a day and seven days a week to provide rapid grade control, a process plant, final concentrate and environmental determinations. SGS runs an on-site sample preparation laboratory for the Oyu Tolgoi exploration team at the site. Samples are prepared at the exploration site and shipped to SGS’ nearby commercial laboratory in Ulaanbaatar for all required analyses.
The new on-site facility will employ more than 50 people. Many are being trained at SGS’ local laboratory in Ulaanbaatar. The Ulaanbaatar facility is a fully equipped commercial facility with fire assay, ICP, XRF, fluorine, chlorine, sulphur, carbon and classical wet chemistry capability, as well as a full scope of testing for coal.
