Zurich, Switzerland-based power and automation technology company ABB Inc. (ABB-n) has acquired Calgary-based Ber-Mac Electrical and Instrumentation, expanding the Swiss multinational’s services in Western Canada.
Ber-Mac, which was founded in 1980, focuses on providing industrial automation, electrical and instrumentation design, process optimization, panel fabrication and field services for the oil and gas sector.
The merger will add to ABB’s already 120,000-strong workforce.
“This acquisition will significantly expand ABB’s footprint in Western Canada by over 400 employees, based in 14 locations,” said Sandy taylor, president and CEO of ABB, in a release.
Ber-Mac generated $100 million in revenue for 2007.
The ABB Group already has a firm hand on the Canadian market, employing 2,000 people in 26 locations from coast to coast.
Ber-Mac president Bernie Mc-Caffrey said the company’s services will be integrated with ABB’s.
“Accessing ABB’s global resources will allow us to provide greater capacity to our existing customers,” McCaffrey said in a statement.
