The International Iron and Steel Institute has changed its name to the World Steel Association to better reflect its global expansion.
“Our new name provides a simple description of our role and clarity to our purpose. The World Steel Association is the representative body for an essential industry that takes a leadership role through our environmental, social and economic sustainability programs,” said Ian Christmas, director general of the World Steel Association, in a press release.
Founded in 1967, the organization has grown to represent 18 of the 20 largest steel companies in the world, including six of the top 10 producers in China. The Association encompasses 180 steel producers that make 85% of the world’s steel.
