CDN-listed Taylor Rand and Zairian-based Salomon Co-operative intend to join forces to develop two groups of mining properties in the central African country. In total, the properties comprise 450 sq. km.
The Sankura diamond concessions in Kasai province, along the Sankuru River, contain 3-metre-deep gravels with 2 to 3 carats per cubic metre (75% industrial, 25% gem-quality diamonds).
The Maiema concessions in Kivu province feature placer gold grades of 2.18 grams per cubic metre and lode gold grades of between 7 and 22 grams per cubic metre. There is also geological evidence of base metal deposits and diamonds.
