Diamonds were recovered in selected samples from four of the first eight holes drilled this past winter at the Fort la Corne project in Saskatchewan.
.YThe project is a joint venture among Kensington Resources (KRT-V), Cameco (CCO-T), Uranerz Exploration & Mining and Monopros. Each company will hold a 25% interest once Kensington completes the terms of a $3.4-million earn-in agreement.
As part of a bulk-sampling program, the partners recovered 2.1-8.1 tonnes of kimberlite material from each of the holes. While some previously drilled kimberlites are being subjected to additional tests, the balance of the drilling is testing new targets.
A suite of 8-kg samples, representative of each of the holes, was analyzed by caustic dissolution to provide a preliminary indication of the potential diamond grade. Only those mini-bulk samples with significant diamond content will be processed for macrodiamond recovery.
Kimberlite No. 145 was tested by hole 145-5. A total of 13 diamonds weighing 0.0198 carat (including 1 macro weighing 0.0171 carat) was recovered from 60 kg of sampled kimberlite. The Fort la Corne partners classify as macros only those stones measuring greater than 1 mm.
A previous, 28.7-tonne bulk sample of No. 145 yielded 0.809 carat for a grade of 0.0282 carat per tonne.
Kimberlite No. 123 was tested with a third hole, yielding seven stones weighing 0.2756 carat (including 1 macro weighing 0.2747 carat) from 42.5 kg of sample. The single macro, which is described as white and clear, may be a fragment of a larger stone.
Kimberlite Nos. 220 and 223, previously untested, were found to be diamond-bearing. The former returned 26 diamonds weighing 0.0147 carat (including 1 macro weighing 0.0101 carat) from 25.3 kg of sample, while the latter yielded 7 micros weighing 0.0018 carat from 33.8 kg of sampled kimberlite.
Small-diameter drilling is continuing at the project. To date, 16 of the 30 planned holes have been drilled.
