THE DIAMOND PAGE — Winspear, Aber set to drill at Camsell Lake property

Drilling at the Camsell Lake diamond project in the Northwest Territories is expected to begin in early March.

Operator Winspear Resources (WSP-V) holds a 42.5% interest, while Aber Resources (ABZ-T) holds 57.5%.

The 4,500-metre program will focus on various targets within a 9-sq.-km area, on the northwestern side of Snap Lake.

Till samples from the area display concentrations of pyrope garnets and chromites. Five separate locations of kimberlite boulders were discovered in the area. In total, 143 diamonds, including 33 macrodiamonds, were recovered from 34.1 kg of boulder material sampled from two of the sites. (A macrodiamond is defined as exceeding 0.5 mm in size in at least one dimension.)

Twenty additional diamonds were recovered from seven till samples taken in the vicinity of the kimberlite boulders. Near one of the boulder sites, another eight diamonds were recovered from a 60-kg sample of green clay material.

The distribution of the indicator minerals, diamonds and kimberlite boulders has led Winspear to believe there is more than one kimberlitic source in the main area of interest.

Results from an airborne magnetic survey and ground electromagnetic survey are being used to determine drill targets.

Drilling is also planned for the northeastern portion of Snap Lake, and for the southeastern portion where Winspear previously intersected narrow kimberlite dykes in four holes. The dykes contained abundant purple pyrope garnets.

More recently, test results confirmed the dykes to be diamondiferous, returning 14 diamonds. Among these were five macros from four samples weighing a combined 11.8 kg.
