A drill program by RJK Explorations (RJX-A) is under way at the Garupi gold concession in Brazil’s Maranhato state.
The concession lies in the Garupi gold trend, where several North American companies are exploring for the yellow metal.
In addition to the drilling, RJK is carrying out geological mapping, soil sampling and trenching. A second drill will be added shortly.
RJK notes that the results of an earlier program of soil sampling on the Garupi North property indicate a broad, anomalous zone of gold mineralization, ranging from 200 to 400 metres wide over a strike length of 2 km. A second, parallel zone was recently identified.
Previously, channel samples taken across the exposed saprolite zone in the garimpeiro Pica Pau workings averaged 1.02 grams gold per tonne over 92 metres.
RJK notes that the joint venture of TVX Gold (TVX-T) and Santa Fe Pacific Gold (GLD-N) is engaged in a major drill program of its own, north and south of the Garupi concession.
Exploration in Brazil has picked up steam in the past year. The increase is attributed to changes in government policy designed to encourage foreign investment in the mining sector.
