X-ray experts Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO-N) have been awarded a Good Design award by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum for its Niton XL3t series handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers.
The scanners, which are used throughout the mining industry for detecting and analyzing mineralization in soil and rock, had a good year in 2008, winning an R&D 100 award for technological innovation from R&D Magazine and a Product of the Year award in the safety products category from Creative Child magazine.
This year’s Good Design awards, held by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture and Design, were judged in New York and Los Angeles in November by an international jury of design professionals, architects, experts and cultural leaders.
The Niton XL3t is used for detecting subtle geochemical anomalies and gathering data for mine development and exploration.
