The Toronto Stock Exchange has joined the top 10 list of world stock exchanges.
Record trading values of US$133.4 billion catapulted the TSE to a new plateau; it now ranks 10th amongst the world’s elite exchanges, up from its 12th-place spot in 1993.
The new ranking was awarded by the Federation Internationale des Bourses de Valeurs (the international association of stock exchanges).
The only other North American stock exchanges included in the list are New York and Chicago, which occupy first and 16th place, respectively.
The London and Tokyo exchanges took second and third spot, respectively.
