Encouraging gold values from initial trenching at the Tartan Lake property in northern Manitoba held under option from Goldbrae Developments have been reported by Westfield Minerals.
The property is located five miles east of Flin Flon and two miles south of the Granges Exploration/ Abermin Corp. Tartan Lake gold project.
Two trenches showing 100 ft apart have exposed altered rocks of rhyolitic composition adjacent to a north-trending shear zone, the company reports. The trenches were dug to investigate anomalous gold values discovered by Westfield in 1986.
Channel samples from trench 87-01 assayed 0.27 oz gold per ton over 11.5 ft, while samples from trench 87-02 assayed 0.2 oz over 6.5 ft. True thickness of the zone is not known. A 3,000-ft drilling program is planned following completion of the summer field program at the end of September.
Westfield, project operator, may earn a 50% interest in the property by spending $285,000 on exploration by the end of 1988, and may increase its interest to 70% by spending an additional $1 million by the end of 1992.
