Vancouver-based Tri-Alpha Investments (VSE) reports a wollastonite find at its 298-claim property at St-Onge Twp. in the Lac St. Jean area of Quebec. President Barry Coughlan said the claims have undergone preliminary exploration work such as trenching, blasting, some mapping and soil sampling. Two Quebec government reports dealing with the claims have been completed. Coughlan said the deposit exceeds six kilometres in length, with little overburden.
Until recently, wollastonite had application mainly in ceramics and in fillers for paints and metallic fluxes. Today, it is also used as a replacement for asbestos and as a reinforcement filler in plastic and resin systems.
Tri-Alpha is seeking a joint venture partner for the prospect. In the event a partner cannot be found, Coughlan said the company has budgeted an exploration and development program of $200,000 for 1991 and $300,000 for 1992.
The Lac St. Jean area was the site of a staking rush (copper-nickel exploration) in 1989.
