“Promising” best describes results of the first six holes drilled in a recent program on the Lewis Ponds gold and base metal project near Sydney, Australia.
Holes 18, 20 and 21 intersected extensive mineralization both within the Main zone and in the hangingwall, above the Main zone, Tri Origin Exploration (TSE) reports.
The best intersection in the Main zone was 360-376 metres in Hole 20. The interval ran 0.24% copper, 2% lead, 2.95% zinc, 5.3 grams gold and 119 grams silver per tonne over 16 metres. This included two higher-grade sections. One section ran 0.43% copper, 2.4% lead, 4.15% zinc, 10.10 grams gold and 240 grams silver over 5 metres, while the other ran 0.48% copper, 5.64% lead, 7.18% zinc, 10.84 grams gold and 212 grams silver per tonne over 3 metres. The best intersection in the hangingwall was a 3-metre interval which ran 0.04% copper, 0.34% lead, 0.50% zinc, 7.66 grams gold and 126 grams silver per tonne.
The widely spaced holes have confirmed continuity of the mineralization and extended the known depth of the deposit.
Besides the main deposit, drilling has been completed on exploration targets. Hole 19, for example, was drilled to test for mineralization around the past-producing Lady Belmore mine. The hole intersected a 2-metre section which ran 0.17% copper, 9.91% lead, 14.10% zinc, 2.29 grams gold and 36 grams silver per tonne.
Tri Origin has also re-interpreted results from its previous drilling. Although no mineralization was encountered in Holes 16 and 17, the company believes a major fault may exist where the mineralization was supposed to occur. There are indications that the mineralization should be on the downdip extension of this fault. The target will be tested during the next drill phase.
Two rigs are operating on site in an effort to expand the size of the deposit, as well as test new targets south of it.
