Triathlon draws 140 competitors

The eighth annual Great Porcupine Goldrush Triathlon attracted 140 competitors on 49 teams to Timmins, Ont., this summer. There were 86 entrants (30 teams) in the 55-km competitive event, and 54 entrants (19 teams) in the 14-km recreational event.

A first- or second-place finish in the 55-km event, and a first-place finish in the 14-km event, won a gold sample provided by one of three area mines: Falconbridge Gold’s Hoyle Pond, Royal Oak Mines’ Pamour No. 1 and Placer Dome’s Dome.

The annual triathlon is organized and co-ordinated, on a non-profit basis, by the Porcupine Prospectors and Developers Association.
