TSX VENTURE EXCHANGE APR. 29-MAY 5

VANCOUVER –The S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index managed a small gain over the April 29 to May 5 trading session, gaining 10.59 points to close at 2493.76. Daily trading volumes also crept up an average of 97.2 million shares traded each day.

The bears-to-bulls ratio, however, is proof that the downturn is not yet finished. On the junior board 274 companies fell to new share price lows over the session while only 11 climbed to new highs.

For the third week running Yukon Zinc was among the board’s most active, this time grabbing top-trader status. The junior moved 78.8 million shares over the session to close up 5 at 21. During the previous week Yukon Zinc received two takeover offersm but this week London-listed Griffin Mining said it will not increase its offer, which means company and its silver-rich polymetallic project in the Yukon will likely go to a Chinese consortium.

There’s a new craze over Saskatchewan coal. In April Goldsource Mines twice hit a coal seam while drilling for diamonds. Its share price has since skyrocketed; over the session the junior added $1.95 to close at $4.55. Other juniors now want a piece of the action: Saturn Minerals, Canasia Industries, Gold Star Resources, and Swift Resources all applied for coal permits in Saskatchewan since Goldsource’s discovery. Each had significant single day gains on the move; the most successful, Saturn, moved 47 million shares over the session to close up 26 at 42.

Unintentionally riding the same wave was Wescan Goldfields, which had a record week on no news. The gold-seeking junior traded over 9 million shares to rise 20 and close at 43, likely because its properties are all located in Saskatchewan.

Canplats Resources had a solid week, gaining $1.02 to close at $3.56. The company’s gold-silver-lead-zinc discovery in Mexico, Camino Rojo, produced two more sets of drill results showing good mineralization over intercepts up to 300 metres in length, often starting at surface.

In a country where other companies are having their permit applications denied, Rusoro Mining this week announced it has all of the necessary permits for gold production at its Choco 10 mine in Venezuela. Although the company first climbed on the news, it seems permits in hand aren’t enough to ease investor concern over the Venezuelan situation: Rusoro ended the session down 25 at $1.10.

A lengthy intercept at the Caspiche goldcopper porphyry project in Chile boosted Exeter Resource 45 over the week to $4.40.The company drilled 719 metres grading 1 gram gold per tonne and 0.38% copper, among other long mineralized results.

And a short, high-grade intercept from the Los Reyes zone of the Royal Mines of Zacualpan failed to impress Impact Silver investors. A 4.5-metre section of core returned 262 grams silver per tonne, 0.09 gram gold, 2% zinc, and 0.64% lead but Impact closed the session down 25 at $1.07.
