Tulawaka yields more gold

Drilling on the Tulawaka gold property in northern Tanzania has revealed more high-grade results for partners Barrick Gold (ABX-T) and Minires du Nord (MDN-T).

Recent results include 134.7 grams per tonne over 6.1 metres, 22.6 grams over 13.5 metres, and 7.2 grams over 28 metres. The intercepts include smaller but higher-grade sub-zones carrying up to 1,234 grams.

Current efforts are focused on the East zone, where resources are pegged at 1.6 million tonnes grading 18.96 grams gold per tonne. A second but separate structure, known as the West zone, hosts 736,678 tonnes grading 2.9 grams.

Mineralization in the East zone is hosted by three gold-bearing quartz veins, which individually strike for up to 600 metres in length for a combined length of 1 km. Overall, the zone extends to a depth of at least 150 metres.

Barrick operates and owns a 70% interest (which it acquired through the takeover of Pangea Goldfields last summer), leaving Minires with the remainder. The major retains a right of first refusal on its partner’s interest, should it choose to sell it.
