Twin Gold recovers more diamonds

Toronto-based Twin Gold (TWG-T) has recovered more diamonds from its land package in the Torngat Mountains region of northwestern Quebec.

The latest results are from a 109.8-kg sample extracted from the Torngat 1 dyke. Lakefield Research recovered 214 diamonds, of which 44 are macrodiamonds (more than 0.5 mm in one dimension), with eight of those exceeding 1 mm in one dimension.

Of this total, 176 are transparent, 37 are translucent and one is opaque. On the colour scale, 183 are white, 23 are off-white, seven are grey and one is brown.

Twin Gold had previously recovered 161 diamonds, including 22 macros, from 277 kg of kimberlite taken from the Torngat 2 and 3 dykes. The stones were described as “of consistent high quality, mostly white and transparent.”

The company recently discovered four new kimberlite dykes 10 km southwest of Torngat 1, 2 and 3. One of these, Torngat South, yielded seven micros, all of which were white and transparent to translucent.

Twin Gold holds 444 sq. km of ground on the east coast of Ungava Bay. The land package covers a 20-km-long lineament corridor, which includes the existing diamond-bearing dykes and areas where linear and circular features were observed.
