Diamond drilling has encountered two gold- bearing zones at Radcliffe Resources’ Valley View massive sulphide prospect in California. The single drill hole was put down as a follow-up to five rotary drill holes which returned erratic gold values, possibly because of free gold.
The average grade of the zones was 0.23 oz gold per ton over an aggregate thickness of 45 ft. The upper gold zone graded 0.24 oz over 25 ft (23 ft true width), while the lower zone assayed 0.22 oz across 20 ft , (18 ft true width). The zones are shallow lying and occur between 95 and 160 ft.
The hole was drilled below the depth of oxidation and into pyrite- rich massive sulphide zones, notes Clyde L. Smith, vice-president exploration. He adds that the “considerable thickness of the zones and their large extent indicate the property has large tonnage potential.”
The earlier rotary drill holes covered a strike length of 650 ft. Additional diamond drilling is planned along that strike length and down dip to more accurately evaluate the discovery.
Four other gold-bearing zones have been noted in outcrop and these will be drilled later this year, Mr Smith states. Radcliffe has the right to earn a 60% interest in the property. Westley Resources’ 40% interest is carried through expenditures of $500,000(US).
