A short course on remote-sensing in mineral exploration will follow this year’s convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, in Toronto.
The course, to be held March 19-20 at the University of Toronto, is being organized by the students chapter of the Society of Economic Geologists. Leading the course will be Floyd Sabins, principal of Remote Sensing Enterprises and adjunct professor at the University of California, and Rebecca Dodge, a research specialist in geology at the University of Texas.
Sabins and Dodge will cover passive visible-light and infrared systems, such as Landsat, with applications to structural analysis and detection of alteration patterns. The instructors will also examine several case histories in the application of “active” radar remote-sensing systems, such as Radarsat.
Registration forms are available from the geology department of the U of T, SEG Student Chapter, 22 Russell St., Toronto, Ont. M5S 1B1. Telephone enquiries can be directed to Heather MacDonald at (416) 978-0657 or Michael Thompson at (416) 978-0597.
