U of T, SEG offer diamond course

The University of Toronto chapter of the Society of Economic Geologists will present a short course on diamond exploration on March 7 and 8.

The event coincides with the annual convention of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, which begins March 9.

The course will focus on the petrology of diamond-bearing rocks and the geochemistry of kimberlites, while providing an overview of exploration in Canada.

Carleton geology dept. turns 50

Carleton University’s Dept. of Earth Sciences will host a reception on March 11 to mark its 50th anniversary.

The reception will take place in the Algonquin Room of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel between 5-8 p.m. during the annual convention of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada.

MEMS conference in Colorado

The Mineral Economics and Management Society (MEMS) will host its 12th annual conference, in Boulder, Colo., April 9-11.

The event is designed for academic, industrial and government specialists interested in mineral economics and materials management.

Discussion topics will include processing innovations, resource assessment, financing mechanisms for minerals, and the impact of environmental regulations on industry.

CAMESE at Exposibram

The Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) has reserved exhibition space at Exposibram, a conference slated for Sept. 23-26 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The bi-annual event is organized by the Brazilian Mining Institute, and this year will be held in the Belo Horizonte Exhibition Pavilion, which offers 8,000 sq. metres of space.

Brazil’s mining output is about half that of Canada, and the country expects to attract US$35 billion in mining-related investment over the next 20 years.

Exposibram is expected to draw 15,000 visitors. The deadline for reserving the remaining space is Feb. 24. For more information, e-mail dunn@camese.org
