U.S. abandons Summitville action

Following the decision in the Ontario Court (General Division) overturning the order to freeze $152 million in Inco (N-T) shares held by Robert Friedland (T.N.M., Nov. 11/96), the U.S. Department of Justice has announced it will not appeal the court’s decision.

The decision, rendered by Mr. Justice Robert Sharpe, was critical of the representations made by the U.S. government and by Canadian lawyers representing it in Ontario and British Columbia courts.
