Contributions from American Mining Congress (AMC) member companies toward renovation of the geology, gems and minerals hall of the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., recently topped US$1 million, the AMC reported. Fifteen companies have made donations since the fund drive was announced in spring, 1990. Plans call for the hall to be closed in spring, 1992, for refurbishment, with the reopening scheduled for 1995. The current minerals and gems exhibit opened in 1958. The geology hall will be combined with minerals and gems.
