Major Drilling Group International (TSX: MDI) president and CEO Denis Larocque says that based on a years-long exploration lull in mining, the sector could be in the early phase of an exploration upswing.
“We’re still at only 50% of the exploration efforts that were deployed in 2012, and all those years of lack of exploration have built up a supply crunch, which can only be fixed by more drilling,” Larocque told The Northern Miner’s western editor, Henry Lazenby, during last month’s Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s annual convention in Toronto.
Larocque also discussed the company’s investments in technology and innovation. He shared details about one of its latest inventions – a console collecting real-time drilling data to optimize the process.
