Vior drilling hints at third zone on Douay property

A couple of new discoveries have been announced by Societe d’Exploration Miniere Vior (ME) at its Douay gold project northeast of Joutel, Que., in Quebec’s Casa Berardi area.

Three drill rigs are at work as part of an $850,000 program started up in January.

A 15-ft. section grading 0.27 oz. gold per ton, included in a 50-ft. section averaging 0.11 oz., was intersected in the deepening of a previous hole (70-531-0) drilled in the 1970s. Also, a separate 30-ft. section of the 50-ft. section cut 0.16 oz.

And hole D-92-20 returned a 10.8-ft. section grading 0.23 oz. within a 25.8-ft. section averaging 0.12 oz.

Vior said the gold mineralization from the deepened hole occurs in felsic tuffs and agglomerates, highly sheared and altered, with 1-5% fine-grained pyrite and quartz veinlets.

The discovery was made between two known deposits on the property, the Main Douay deposit (in the middle of the property) to the northeast and the Douay West deposit to the northwest. The Main zone is currently estimated to contain 243,000 tons grading 0.28 oz. Douay West is estimated to contain 643,000 tons averaging 0.29 oz.

Vior’s major owner, with a 34.5% interest, is Inco Ltd.
