More drilling is in the works, as Virginia Gold Mines‘ (VIA-T) follows up on encouraging results from its latest program on the lonore gold project, in the Opinaca reservoir area near James Bay, Que.
Fourteen additional holes drilled in the Roberto system have confirmed the vertical continuity of the Roberto zone to 550 metres vertical depth. Hole 113, the deepest hole to cut the zone to date, intersected 20.7 grams gold over 12 metres.
Hole 113 also cut the Roberto Est zone to a vertical depth of 450 metres; the intercept graded 51.9 grams gold over 2.4 metres.
Another hole cut Roberto mineralization, which graded 12.7 grams gold over 9 metres to 450 metres vertical depth.
A couple of infill holes cut high grades of 22.6 and 37.6 grams gold per tonne over 2-metre widths within 50 metres of surface. One hole confirmed a barren area.
Hole 105 first cut 24 grams gold over 3.25 metres in the mid-Roberto zone, then hit 10.4 grams gold over 2.25 metres when it crossed the Roberto zone. The latter interval ended at 475 metres vertical depth.
Other highlights in the mid-Roberto zone include: 14.1 grams gold over 3 metres; and 6.2 grams gold over 6 metres.
A few new zones were tested, one being zone sud, which graded 4.85 grams gold over 4 metres.
The TR-20 area, 800 metres to the east-northeast of the central portion of the Roberto system, was cut by seven holes and hit several significant intersections including up to 9.5 grams gold over 3 metres.
About 500 metres southeast of TR-20, zone TR-11 was tested by one hole. A 12-metre interval graded 4 grams gold per tonne. This interval included a 4-metre intercept grading 9.5 grams gold per tonne.
Drilling is ongoing.
