Virginia keeps the faith at James Bay

Prospecting and mapping by Virginia Gold Mines (VIA-T) have outlined several new gold-bearing and polymetallic structures on the junior’s extensive land package in the James Bay region of northern Quebec.

At the Caniapiscau project, held equally by Virginia and partner Cambior (CBJ-T), new gold-bearing showings associated with sulphide zones were found at the core of iron formations. Sampling results from the Dead Mouse Extension, situated 450 metres from the original Dead Mouse showing, include 5.9 grams gold per tonne over 3.8 metres. The original showing returned 5.1 grams gold over 2 metres and 3.7 grams over 2.5 metres.

New gold-bearing and polymetallic showings were found at the Corvet West-Island Lake project, where Sudbury Contact Mines (SUD-T) can earn a 50% interest from Virigina. Channel-sampling results include 3.41 grams over 2 metres from the Deca-1 showing.

Trenching by Virginia and partner Boreal Exploration (BOR-M) uncovered two mineralized outcrops on the Poste-Lemoyne Extension property. The outcrops are believed to be lateral extensions of a trench that previously returned up to 21.5 grams gold over 5 metres in an iron formation. Channel sampling from the new targets returned up to 21.02 grams gold over 3 metres and 11.53 grams over 3 metres.

Meanwhile, drilling at Payne Bay, held equally by Virginia and partner Osisko Exploration (OSK-M), hit mineralized zones in the core of peridotite lobes. The third hole intersected disseminated sulphides over its entire length, averaging 0.48% nickel and 0.18% copper over 321 metres.
