Noranda Exploration says recent drill results on the Waite Beauchastel property continue to provide excellent potential for expanding ore reserves. Surface drilling has successfully traced the Silidor structure over a strike length of more than 400 m and to a depth of 500 m.
To date, a total of 142 holes have been completed on the property and four machines are currently drilling from the Don Rouyn property, immediately east of the Waite Beauchastel, to test the down-dip extension of the deposit on the Don Rouyn.
Preliminary results from the first two deep holes confirmed that the ore structure extends to depth on the Don Rouyn.
Deep drilling together with fill-in ore definition drilling will continue in 1987.
“Although it is premature to announce production plans, Noranda has taken steps to ensure that the project will move as quickly as possible to production should the feasibility study, to be undertaken in early 1987, indicate a commercially viable project,” the company says.
The company says it is confident the upper portion of the deposit can be mined by open pit whereas the bulk of the ore, below the open pit ore, will have to be mined by ramp or shaft. The company is currently leaning toward a shaft.
The Silidor project, a joint venture of Noranda, Cambior and Cogesco, is on another adjacent property to the Waite Beachastel property.
