Wenco To Supply Fleet Management Technology For Alrosa

Wenco International Mining Systems, a supplier of computer-based fleet management systems, has been commissioned by state-run diamond miner Alrosa to supply technology for the company’s Nurba mine in Russia.

Wenco will outfit the mine’s load and haul fleets with 34 units of Axon computer hardware and software for fuel management, preventative maintenance and speed control.

In addition to keeping the equipment operators informed of the state of their vehicles, the technology will also be used to modify and update mine operating plans.

The equipment, which uses global position satellite (GPS) technology, is designed for open-pit mining and also offers real-time guidance for the excavators, dozers and drills.

Alrosa, which produces 97% of Russia’s diamond production and a quarter of the world’s rough diamond production, is majority-owned by the central government of Russia in Moscow.

Half of the company’s rough diamonds are sold in foreign markets.

The company has a distribution agreement with De Beers’ marketing arm.

Wenco, which was founded in 1986, has done extensive work with mining fleets including those at Taseko Mines’ (TKO-T, TGB-N) Gibraltar copper-molybdenum mine in B. C., and the Damtshaa diamond mine in Botswana, owned by Debswana.
