Wesdome hitting gold at Kiena

Wesdome Gold Mines (WDG-V) has hit significant gold in the VC zone at its Kiena mine, 10 km west of Val d’Or, Que.

Seven holes were drilled from underground on the 520-metre level. The widest intercept cut the VC3 zone over a width of 19 metres (true width) and graded 5.36 grams gold per tonne.

One hole intersected 15 metres that graded 5.62 grams gold. All widths given are calculated true width. This interval included a 3.5-metre intercept that graded 12.87 grams gold, as well as a 7.5-metre intercept that graded 4.64 grams gold per tonne.

Other holes, cutting the VC3 zone, intersected from 3-17 metres grading 2-7 grams gold. A high of 22 grams gold over 6 metres, was cut to 5.5 grams gold per tonne (high assays were cut to 34.3 grams gold per tonne).

The VC zone comprises at least three mineralized lenses. Mineralization is hosted by silicified, albitized breccia within mafic volcanic rock, cut by intermediate to felsic intrusive rock.

Most holes cut more than one mineralized lens.

All of the holes were fanned from the same setup, with drill angles spaced at 5-15 (between 8 and 57).

The VC zone has been traced over a vertical distance of 250 metres at 15-metre centres. Definition of the zone is being done on 15-metre sections.

In 2002, the Kiena mine was estimated to contain a measured and indicated resource of 3 million tonnes grading 4.25 grams gold per tonne. The mine produced 11 million tonnes grading 4.75 grams gold per tonne, between 1982 and 2002.
