Western Pacific extends zone

Follow-up trenching has extended a copper zone at Western Pacific Gold‘s (WPI-G) Mbetilonga porphyry copper-gold prospect in the Solomon Islands.

The trenching was designed to continue testing the Hambusimaloso prospect, which had returned 50 metres of 2.6% copper from an earlier trench. This work revealed a second high-grade chalcocite zone, returning 10 metres of 3.91% copper from extensions to the zone. The entire 155-metre trench is reported to have returned values averaging 1.31% copper, though it terminated in 0.25% copper and 0.15% copper at each end.

Western Pacific also discovered copper mineralization while sampling the Vuraklo Creek prospect, 500 metres to the east. More trenching is planned to delineate drill targets.

Situated on the island of Guadalcanal, the property is considered prospective for porphyry copper mineralization and supergene secondary copper enrichment blankets.
