Westmin intersects new zones

At its Myra Falls operation near Campbell River, B.C., Westmin Resources (TSE) is discovering that two mineralized zones are better than one.

Surface diamond drilling aimed at testing the western extension of the Trumpeter zone intersected significant-grade mineralization above the zone. Westmin believes two fragmental mineralized zones encountered in hole PR-112 are very similar to the Block 43 ore in the H-W mine and are possibly an extension of the deposit, situated 1 km to the southwest.

Values returned for the two zones include: 5.3 metres of 1.8 grams gold per tonne, 32 grams silver, 0.6% copper plus 4.7% zinc over a drilled interval from 444-449.3 metres; and 7.5 metres of 2.7 grams gold, 58.9 grams silver, 2.2% copper plus 8.1% zinc over a drilled interval from 455.7-463.2 metres. The Trumpeter zone returned 6.8 metres of 3.1 grams gold, 51.2 grams silver, 2.3% copper and 4.4% zinc.

The three zones, when assayed over 33.5 metres, average 1.7 grams gold, 31.9 grams silver, 1.2% copper and 3.8% zinc.

Recent drilling has extended the Trumpeter zone 76 metres to the northwest, with three holes remaining to be drilled.

Westmin plans to test the new fragmental mineralized zones by means of underground drilling. A drift from the nearby Price mine will be driven to the north to provide access.

Proven and probable reserves at Myra Falls total 12.5 million tonnes grading 2 grams gold, 45.4 grams silver, 1.9% copper, 6.7% zinc and 0.5% lead.
