An exploration decline will be constructed at the Beaver Brook antimony deposit of Roycefield Resources (ASE).
The property, situated near Grand Falls, Nfld., consists of two mineralized zones: the Central, with 159,000 tonnes grading 5.28% antimony, and the East, with 760,000 tonnes averaging 4.43% antimony. Together, the zones contain about 50 million kg of antimony — enough to sustain a mine for nine years.
Antimony, known since prehistoric times, is a silvery-grey element used in medicine and alloyed with lead for the production of shells, bullets and batteries. The oxide is used in enamels and pigments, while the sulphide is used in the manufacture of rubber.
