A new 2-year agreement has been ratified by Highland Valley Copper workers in south-central British Columbia.
The contract, to run until Sept. 30, 1993, increases wages by 5% in each of the two years. The new top-level wage is $22.42 per hour. Basic pension benefits have been improved, as has an early retirement program. United Steelworker (local 7619) workers at Highland Valley, owned by Cominco (TSE), Rio Algom (TSE) and Teck (TSE), were involved in a 3-month strike in 1989.
